Effect of slow - release Fertilizers on Changes of Nutrient Concentrations in Rice - hull Based Root Media , Crop Growth and Nutrient Uptake of Chrysanghemum

Abstract
The effect of two slow release fertilizers such as Osmocoat (OC) and CDU on changes of medium pH and nutrient concentrations in composted rice-hull (CRH)+perlite (75:25, v/v) media was determined. Nutrient uptake and growth of Dendranthema grandiflorum cv. Monlo were also investigated. Application of 8.0 g¡¤L^(-1) of OC and 12.0 g¡¤L^(-1) of CDU to CRH containing media resulted in the highest crop growth among other treatments of OC and CDU tested. As incorporation rate of OC increased, tissue nutrient contents rose except Ca, Zn, and Cat. The treatments of OC had higher tissue nutrient contents except Ca than those of CDU. As incorporation rate of OC and CDU increased, the pH levels of root media decreased, while electrical conductivity rose to 3.26 and 2.69 mS¡¤§¯^(-1) in the treatments of 12.0 g¡¤L^(-1) of OC and CDU, respectively. The treatments of CDU had lower soil NO©ý-N, P©üO_5, and K concentrations than those of OC. However, these were within the acceptable range.
